| no partners | | Two previous unfulfilled trips up Rock Creek had me wanting it all. Both times were cut short due to weather and lack of a trail after the first rock ledge. Someone has done a ~1/2 mile of much needed trail maintenance but it comes to an obvious end at the start of the switch backs past said ledge. I was happy to finally see the falls but they had very little flow. the trail past the falls was spotty so I opted to B-line it up the creek bottom and intercept it on its way out of the canyon. Once at the top, it was humbling to overlook the expanse of wilderness on the other side. I'd have to imagine the largest stand of Ponderosa in the Mazzies is seen from this view, which is within the upper bowl of N. Fork Deadman Creek Drainage. The switchbacks down to the MDT and Hopi Springs were overrun with Manzanita. The Mazatzal Divide Trail was awesome and I stopped at Horse Camp Seep and N. Fork Deadman Falls. Only ran into a couple tarantulas and a centipede on the trip. Water everywhere but I will definately be going back when things are flowin! Twas a great day away with an awesome sunrise and sunset as a kicker. |
