We began our hike from the old corral on the north side of Apache Trail where the power line crosses. From there we continued along the maintenance road to its conclusion. We didn't locate an easy way down into the canyon there so on our return trip we sought an easy descent. Not really easy but at least a bit safer.
Once in the canyon we followed it as it wound its way back toward our start point. Not being sure if we would find an unbroken route all the way back we made sure to scout possible escape routes if we might have to back-track. The first spot where I thought we could cut back ended very quickly in a slot canyon so tight we gave up right away. Which was a good thing because by staying in the main drainage it brought us conveniently back near the beginning of our hike.
It wasn't that long a hike but the bare rock ridges and winding canyons of this area are sure to bring us back for more.
Sorry, no videos this trip... |
