I saw the difference between my GPS route from several years ago and the current maps of the Pemberton Trail in McDowell Mtn. Park that the northern end of the Pemberton Trail has been realigned. In addition, a new spur trail was added to the northern edge of the park, as well as the fact that the other two spurs had been lengthened since the new alignment was farther south of the original alignment. I added up the mileage on the official map to do the new alignment and the farther spurs from the main TH and it came out to just under 11 miles. After hiking it, it ended up 11.3.

The forecast for this day way 90% rain. In order to counter that, I bought and installed new wiper blades for my and my wife's cars. As of this writing, barely a drop of rain has fallen in the metro Phoenix area. the mostly overcast skies were very nice, making the day's weather overall mild and breezy. No sunburns at all, didn't even need the sunscreen I sprayed on as a precaution  .

At the end of the 150th St. spur, there was a cattle pen with a bunch of calves. As I approached the end of the trail, some calves cautiously checked me out and approached the fence, never getting too close. It was almost as if they could sense I had purchased 2lbs of ground beef the day before and had a dinner of grilled hamburgers planned for the evening with my family. :D

On the way back to the trailhead, there was a race of mountain bikers coming the opposite direction. that was actually preferable to having them coming up behind me, but after the 70th "good morning/how are ya?", I was glad to see the crowd thin out.
