| no partners | | I needed to get home earlier than usual today from hiking, so I decided to do one much closer to my house. I saw the Hawes Pass area map on HAZ and noticed some trails that I haven't hiked before. There was also one that I did hike up along the Goldfield Mts, but apparently I never saved the GPS track from that. I was also anxious to test out a new pair of boots I got at work that are work boots, but they're also Keens, so they double very well as hiking boots, even with a steel toe.
I started at the Walgreens at Power and Thomas Roads with an early 5:30am start. This lot is also used by a lot of mountain bikers. From Walgreens, I crossed Power Road and took the Fenceline Trail (after some searching) up to the Hawes Trail 52 and headed east. Then I took the Red Mountain Trail south out and back into Las Sendas, just to have it hiked and to add some mileage. Kept going east and took the Hawes Loop Trail south, again into Las Sendas and took the Mountain Wash Trail back to the Hawes Trail and back to the car. The names I've listed here are on huge concrete monument signs at the start of each trail inside Las Sendas. East of the Saddle Trail, there is a trail that heads north from the Hawes Trail 52. Looks like another reason to go back and see where that heads to, as well as check out some other unnamed trails that are unofficially mapped.
Finished up around 10am. Most of the mountain bikers were gone and the Salt River tuber crowd was gearing up, making the last available stop at Walgreens for various items. Grabbed some lunch at Senor Taco on the way for the family and spent the afternoon watching the Minions movie for my daughter's birthday. |
