| no partners | | Great Easter sunrise hike up to the Flat Iron with my buddy Corey. Right when we got past the sign we saw 6 deer running off to the northeast. Could not get the camera out quick enough to get any shots, as those girls were moving fast! Perfect hiking weather and the whole hillside up to the rocks were covered in yellow brittlebrush. I knew this is a butt kicker, but didnt realize it until I got to the waterfall area. I was really feeling that extra 5lb weight in my pack at that point. Once past that, the fun part begins! Advice to any newbies to Flat Iron, when in doubt, stay to the left, as we saw numerous groups emerging from the bush that had gotten way off the trail. Apparently that is easy to do up there. Made it up in 1:45 and decided to go up to 5024. My first time up there was pretty cool. Hung out and snacked for a while checking out the views from First Water to Weavers. I cant wait to do the whole ridgeline hike soon. |
