I started from the same spot off of King's Ranch Road and took the dirt road in to the Old Horse Trail. From there, I took the junction with the K Trail and took that far up to almost the Lost Goldmine Trail. The northwest corner of that loop got a little confusing. There's an odd junction of trails up there that also kind of braid a little bit. There was a sign that said "Jodi' Dream - 2 miles" on one trail. I ended up on a trail that was heading directly east, probably to Peralta Road, and it wasn't on the map I have. I decided to head back to the junction and got on the Jodi's Dream trail, but heading west back to where I parked (I was already at the 5 mile mark and only wanted to hike about 10). I turns out that that is the K Trail on my map and it took me to the Diamondback Trail. From there I took that to the Gila Monster Trail and back to my car.
Saw glimpses of a couple of javelinas earlier on the K Trail. I heard their hooves at first but didn't pay attention because I didn't know what it was. They didn't stick around to let me take a picture of them which was fine with me.
Saw only bikers again on these trails, no hikers. The weather was very sunny but not too hot at all, nice and breezy even. Noticed more little signs and things along the trails that people have constructed, including a gnome at a rock table. Also a few wooden bridges going across washes and along steep hills to help out the bikers. Nice to hike in this area since even as far as bikers go, there aren't may people at all. |
