After a pit stop to explore the Slate Lake Lava Cave, we hit up Red Mountain as well on our leisurely meander up to the Grand Canyon for our end-of-the-school-year over-nighter and rim-river-rim trip.

We really enjoyed Red Mtn. It's a fun playground of a place, with the "stair" entrance providing the feel of a passage-way into a new geological world that lies beyond.

As others have said, this is a great place to visit with hikers of all abilities.

Cool place, and well worth a 1.5-2 hour pit stop on the way to the GC.
