The parking lot was about three quarters full. I had already mapped out my route:Hawks Nest to Dixie Mt to Valley Verde to Desert Tortoise back to Hawks Nest. I already noticed the abundance of the small purple flowers on my way up. I was finally able to get a shot of the owl in their nest,
I was so thrilled at that. Once I turned onto the Dixie Mountain trail I was greeted with a wonderful display of poppies. It was awesome! As I went along I discovered that it was a great year for lupines also. I met up with the Valley Verde trail and found it to be a nice section to traverse. I passed a few more areas of poppies along the way. The sky was starting to clear up once I turned onto the Desert Tortoise trail. Further along the DT trail I came upon a great scene right where some houses are. One hillside covered in yellow while sloping away from the trail a large swath of purple. The trails were getting busier by this time as borne out by the full parking lot upon my return. It was a great hike with the best floral display that I've seen in a long time. |
