I got her to tell me the location, with my promise not to tell.
On Thursday I woke up and headed straight up Swift Trail, no breakfast or anything - just a cup of coffee and a mission to try to see those owls!
Arrived at the location and began walking around peering up into likely trees ... there were plenty of happy birds and squirrels enjoying the gorgeous morning. Didn't see anything noteworthy until a red-faced warbler - then spent about 15 minutes stalking him just to get one good picture.
After about an hour I was ready to give up for the day, when back at my car I heard some small birds raising a ruckus - always worth checking out. Tracked the noisey chatter to none other than my ows! The owls were napping peacefully on their roost just a few feet apart, and the little birds were chattering at them. They weren't awake and being cute like in the video I saw, but so great to actually find them against the odds! Anytime I can add a nice bird to my life-list before 9am is a good day!
Also including a few pics of the Great-Horned Owl family that we just had at Roper Lake, now that they have grown up a bit ... very exciting, since they haven't nested here for the past few years. |
