| no partners | | After laying down and re-hydrating in the parking lot after Silver Star, I decided it was time to visit Larch Mountain. This isn't much of a destination hike, so I figured I would knock it out since I was in the area. It's relatively short, and both the other guys I had spoken to in the lot had worked their way down Larch Mtn today and failed to find the summit, so I figured one of the 3 of us should successfully make it. The older gentleman even gave me a paper trail map he had used to aid in my journey.
By the time I started up the trail it was probably about 7pm and much cooler than when I had started up Silver Star a couple hours earlier. The sun was low in the west and the trail here it much more heavily forested. I didn't have any navigational issues like the other 2 men in the parking lot had described. Things were pretty straight forward.
After enjoying the not so scenic view of radio towers at the top, I looped back by following a forest road I had noticed on my GPS on the way up. It was a little steeper than the main trail, but it saved me a little extra mileage which was nice. Overall not a bad trail, I actually may have enjoyed it more than Silver Star because I didn't have any real expectations for it. |
