After a trip to Lava Point during the day Sunday, I drove to the East Rim Trail trailhead and when I arrived at 6 PM I still found the temperature near 100, with an overcast. No way was I doing that trail! Besides, I was still tired from the day before on the West Rim. So, I was going to Cedar Breaks!
Like a small version of Bryce without the Asian tourists screaming at each other in the amphitheater or the Dude Ranch horse tours, it is quiet, cool, and a nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery. This is what I think of as the Monument's main trail, as it is the longest out along the rim, and it has great views. There are others, but this takes you to some spectacular scenery. Bristlecone pines are at both view points, btw. Also, a creek runs right along the trail in parts, and is enjoyable to stop at. |

| | Medium for the creek, I guess. Clear, cold running water just yards from the rim edge. | | _____________________
