Forest Road 42 traverses the portion of the Chiricahua Mountains between the National Monument on the west and Cave Creek Canyon/Portal on the east. High point of the road is at Onion Saddle (where the road to Rustler Park branches off). In general it is a good all weather road, but can have problems during heavy rain events. The recent break in the monsoon action allowed the Forest Service to get in with the grader and work all the roads. It was smooth sailing this trip. :)
