It's been awhile since I've been back to this area. The last, and only time I was here was back in 2012, when I hit Mazzie Peak with a group of HAZ hikers. Another hiker and I got separated from the "antelope of the group" and ended up randomly connecting to Barnhardt and hiking down in the dark. Quite the experience! I was curious if I would be able to figure out were we had joined Barhardt.

Got to the TH a little after 6am, which was about an hour later than what I had hoped for. (I like to be on trail pre sunrise for the temps and the experience). There were already two cars in the lot - one, overnight TH campers and the other?. Made nice time on my way to the Divide. The trail is very well maintained, with the exception of a few rocky sections that forced me to keep my eyes on the trail. The author, Fritzi, did a very nice, an accurate description of this trail. The grade was such that it was easy on the lungs going up and on the knees coming down. And like the author, I kept trying to figure out how the trail was going to work its way up to the next section and then being surprised with the course taken. That being said, the trail was easy to follow. Never any chance of getting lost. Discover that where I joined the Barnhardt back in 2012 was at the 4.9 mile mark. A very obvious stony wash brought back the memories. Made it the Divide in two hours. Took some pictures of a very hazy vista and noticed a large metal globe off to west. Anyone know what that is? Kind of reminds of the globed structure near Seven Springs. One in the same? The return trip was smooth, offering some great views. Met 31 hikers in various spots along the way. I don't hike with Route Scout, but I've hiked with others who do and I have to say I felt like I was hitting a mile every few minutes. I kept waiting for the stats to come out after the bird call. Wildlife was minimal...some rabbits and lizards and quite a few cow piles along the way. Very nice hike. Definitely worth repeating when the falls are active.
