This was the last hike I needed to do to finish all the hikes in the Boots and Burgers book. My daughter Heather got me this book a year or two ago. Enticed me to do a few hikes I might not have done and eat a little more of course. Thanks Heather!
Tom, Rhonda, and I got here about lunchtime so we ate lunch first. One of the books suggestions is the John Wayne burger. I'm in! Good burger with a view. I didn't realize the Motel and little cabins were so close to the Mittens. Touristy but still cool.
After lunch we got our check in out of the way and hit the trail. Cool trail that takes you through the middle of the Mittens,
loops around the west one, and back up. Had no shade but a few clouds were nice. The trail has a fair amount of sand on the first/last part and makes you work a little extra. Fun none the less. While on the hike I heard a buzz I couldn't figure out. When we got on the backside of Mitten there was a group of four that "couldn't read" the no drone sign. They brought it in and put it away when they saw us. We drove the 18 mile valley loop also.
We stayed in one of the tiny cabins for the night. Lucky we have been friends for a long time  . They actually seem pretty well built and were pretty quite. The sunset and sunrise from here were awesome. Breakfast buffet after sunrise and we were off.
We stopped by the Hubbell Trading Post on the way home. Was not as touristy as I thought it would be. A park ranger gave us a tour of the old Hubbell house. Told us lots of interesting stuff and answered all our questions. I really enjoyed seeing the old buildings, furniture, machinery, pictures, and there was quite the basket collection from various Indian tribes. A nice collection of Navajo rugs as well.
Nice little road trip with a couple of good friends! :y:
