It is paved all the way to the ski area run by the Mescalero Apache Tribe. The road gets quite steep and narrow in the upper reaches, so heads up. Stunning views abound! Oak Grove Campground is along the road at an elevation of about 9000 feet ($6/night, Open: May 15 to about October 15). The trail head for Scenic Trail T15 (9840 feet) is at a sharp curve, just before the road enters Ski Apache. There is a parking area at this point, if you are not going into the resort. This short trail climbs up to connect with Crest Trail T25 at 10180 feet. |
