| no partners | | | Parked at wolverine gate , turned down 1356, decided to check out the rock house first, ran into a mature couple there who were told the house was an old stage coach stop? Proceeded a little further ,thought about checking out top hat as I’ve never done it but the same couple told me there was a large group ahead of me. Decided to backtrack to bulldog wash and head toward Dome mountain. After crossing the wash saw 2 mule deer on the trot to my right ,unable to prepare quick enough to get a picture. Just after turning onto the trail up to the saddle saw a tortoise , was able to move quick enough to get a picture. Just before the turn passed 2 other hikers and saw no others the rest of the day . At the summit signed the register , container is a glass jar with broken top, I put a plastic bag over it but a new register is needed. Had intended to do the loop this time but as I was descending the summit a crack of lightning and thunder made the decision to get down below the saddle directly. Of course I heard no more thunder but clouds looked increasingly ominous as I was returning. Fair amount of Mexican poppies on the trail from the atv track up to the saddle, no water in the portion of the wash I crossed.Nice day for all the clouds but a little humid. |
