We didn't have time for the Flatiron, but we could admire its magnificence while we walked towards it. We arrived mid-morning, parked at the Cholla lot in Lost Dutchman State Park and took the bicycle trail to the Siphon Draw trail. From there we headed to the basin, our destination today.
There was a nice waterfall at the basin, and water was trickling down everywhere. The highlight of the trip was a group of Arizona Hot Shots in training, stopping at the basin for a break after a trip to the Flatiron. As others were crabbing down the slick rock, afraid of slipping and falling, they left their perch up high and quickly dropped down to the water fall, zig zagging their way in single file like a snake. Beautiful to watch. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to record it.
The weather was perfect and the trails were mostly dry in spite of the rain. |
