| no partners | | Second Day of the Payson excursion. Since it was so hot here I decided to do some shorter hikes starting very early and finishing by around noon. For the first hike of the day I chose the short Monument Peak Loop. This is a shot 3.3 mile Loop with No AEG. The trail is used by motor vehicles, mountain bikers and a few desperate hikers. Went around counterclockwise. The far north side of Monument Peak is actually kind of scenic, heavily wooded area with pines and water was still flowing in the stream. The downside of this hike is the constant sound of traffic on the north side of Monument Peak and the houses not far off the trail. As I was hiking this trail the words Whimppy, Whimpy, Whimpy kept going through my head. I decided to add a little beef to the hike by heading up to Monument Peak. The beef wasn't T-Bone more like a burger. Approached from the north. Really nice views from the summit. The Coldwater Fire had Pine totally enveloped in smoke but the valleys south of Payson had just a faint mist of smoke, actually made for some nice pictures. |
