| no partners | | My 100th triplog on Hikearizona! I decided to make it one of my favorites – Peralta Trail to the Lone Pine.
My ankle is still giving me issues, but since I was able to do Miners Needle Loop last week without any problems, I figured I could handle Peralta Trail. My ankle disagreed. So, lots of swelling and tenderness afterwards. Time to dial it down again. I was moving pretty slow all day, but was really going turtle speed at the end.
I started in the dark, hoping to catch some colors of the sunrise. Once again, the low clouds on the eastern horizon put an end to that. It was cloudy for most of the hike and there were intermittent light rain showers as well. The humidity was pretty high. I felt like I had jumped into a swimming pool with my clothes on by the time I finished up.
This trail is well traveled and there were some people on the trail today. But, the heat filter is still working on the majority of people, so it was semi-solitude for most of the hike.
There has been some work at the trail head. I am guessing it was a precaution in case the fire made it over there? Lots of trimming back around the trail head and parking areas.
My trip up was uneventful – the usual beauty all the way up. I made it out to the Lone Pine and stayed a little while before heading back down. Met a group of folks at the Fremont Saddle and then down the trail I went. The sprinkles started as I got close to the parking lot, but it was never very steady.
I am not sure how many times I have done this trail. I first did it in 1987 when I moved here from Colorado. I was away from that side of town for a while, but I have been on the east side, more or less since I got here. I am guessing 40x? 50x? I never get tired of this trail. I avoid it in the winter months because of the traffic, but I love to hike it when it’s like it was today. |
