Needed headlamps almost right from the start. Headed up Marcos De Niza. Stephanie asked if we were going to take Guadalupe Ridge all the way to Hidden Valley, I said not tonight because I thought it would be too snakey. Sure enough, right where Marcos meets Beverly Canyon, there was a rattler waiting for us in the rocks.

Did the Hidden Valley loop as the temps cooled off nicely. The highlight of the evening was just before the tunnel. Stephanie commented that she had never noticed some of the holes in the rocks before, and stepped closer to take a look. Just as she was nearing the rock, a small bird flew out straight at her face. The timing could not have been better, and I only wish I had caught it on video. She said this is the second time a bird has tried to kill her on a hike. I think it’s been more than that and she just blocked out some of the memories.

Nice evening. Saw no other hikers and four mountain bikers.
