| no partners | | I went to Cloudfoft New Mexico and hooked up with a friend for a couple of days. On the day we arrived we had some time in the afternoon to hike along the Osha Trail T10. Not sure how it got this name but I'm sure it has nothing to do with that Government agency. This was a short 2.4 mile round trip hike near Cloudcroft in the Lincoln National Forest. This trail is along the hillside above Mexican Canyon Trestle. A really well maintained trail with great views down canyon. We walked the first mile of the loop trail before heading back. After hiking in the Chiricahua Mountains in Arizona where the trails are almost non existent and much of it pushing through brush and sticker plants I could not leave well enough alone. I decided I wanted to take a route along a road shown on my GPS that would lead to the Mexican Canyon Trestle. Couldn't find the road but we headed down hill in the area it should be. Never did find the old road and ended up cliffed out along Highway 82 about 40 feet below and no way to easily get to it. After fighting the oak shrubs and cactus we decided to head back up the hill and return on the trail we came in on. Kept my poise though, never letting her know I had no idea what I was doing. Poor Ginny, I drug her downhill then back up through brush and cactus for nothing. I really expected to hear some complaining about the route I took but not a peep, What a trooper. I found a new hiking partner. We got back to the car just as the sun was setting.
This is a nice trail to take if you are in the area and have a little time to kill. Good trail for hikers of all ages and experience levels. Nice views of the Mexican Canyon Trestle below. Our hike was around sunset and while it didn't occur on this hike the sunset views could be terrific. |
