| no partners | | I was looking for a hike with some decent elevation gain that wasn't too far from home, and decided on this one.
I started and ended the hike at the Lost Dog Wash TH in Scottsdale. I took the Sunrise Trail up to Sunrise Peak, and on the way back when I got back down to the hitching post, I took the Andrews Kinsey Trail over to the Fountain Hills Preserve. I took the Western Loop Trail off of the A-K Trail up to Peak 3098; then I continued down the Western Loop Trail to the Promenade Trail; then I went back to the other end of the Western Loop Trail and took it back to the A-K Trail; from there I went back to the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead.
This isn't the most exciting hike in the world, but it isn't bad either -- although it certainly paled in comparison to my hike to Charlebois Spring a couple of days ago. It was a great day to be outside -- the temperature was nice but the wind made it a bit chilly. I hardly saw anyone on the trails, and I did not see anyone at all once I got on the A-K Trail into the Fountain Hills Preserve.
I saw 2 mule deer -- one small buck and one doe -- on the Andrews-Kinsey Trail just after I crossed over to the Fountain Hills Preserve. I have seen white-tailed deer out here before, but this was the first time that I have seen mule deer in this area. The deer were not skittish and they obliged me by posing for some photos. |
