I was wanting an early morning hike since breakfast isn't served until 7:30, and this looked like a nice way to get a couple of miles in and maybe catch a good sunrise. The trail starts in the employee parking lot and quickly heads uphill to the east. After a short distance, it flattens out as it heads south while overlooking the resort and road. Just walking to this mesa of sorts offers a nice view for anyone not really wanting to hike.
The trail then turned west-southwest and switchbacked uphill. Kind of steep, but the trail is in very good shape. As the trail turned to the north, it got a little steeper. Once at the saddle, the trail became rockier and almost a light scramble the last little bit to the top. Just below the flagpole, there is a steel cable and pipe ladder bolted into the rocks. After a quick climb up the ladder of maybe 8' or so, you're at the summit, which only has room for a couple of people. Views in all directions are great. After taking a bunch of pictures, I headed back down the ladder, then retraced my steps back downhill. Great little workout hike, and I wish I had taken the time to hike it yesterday morning too. |
