I spent a little while here exploring what few ruins there are, checking out the mine dump, and peering into the open adit. I could see tracks for an ore cart inside, but the square set timbers at the entrance were charred and the air smelled foul, so I kept out of there. On the way back down, I came across a rattler coiled up on the trail. Failed to get a picture as he beat a hasty retreat. He was a darker variety than I've seen previously, but not completely black.
After descending back to the valley floor, I made the easy walk up to Bushnell Tanks and across the wash to the north where a geocache lies hidden. Lucky the cache was up on the hillside among some boulders. A bull ambled by, bellowing the whole time. I thought it prudent to remain up in the rocks until he found whomever he was calling for.
By this time, the morning was starting to heat up and I was more than half way through my water. I headed back toward the Jeep, grabbing a few more geocaches along the way. One of note was at a rocky overlook of Sycamore Creek. A great view, but the hawk that was dive bombing me would have preferred that I enjoy the view from somewhere else. |
