| no partners | | I was stuck in town, but wanted to get some AEG, so decided to hit up the south side of South Mountain this morning. Arrived at the trail head at a little after 6 AM, and was shocked to see it completely full and overflowing. Wasn’t what I expected for a mid August hike in Phoenix. I wonder if the increased traffic is the result of the easy access via the freeway now (?).
First time on this section of the Bursera trail. I actually liked it better than I thought I would. Saw my first speckled rattlesnake while exploring one of the high points along the ridge line. Their camouflage is finely attuned to the surroundings.
Came across a second speckled on the national trail, but he slipped under a rock before I could get a photo.
Light cloud cover, and a decent breeze along the Ridgeline kept temperatures relatively moderate, though it was starting to get toasty when I finished up about 10:30 AM. |
