| no partners | | After a weekend on the water, I decided to see if I could catch some seasonal shifts and decided to meet a friend up in the high country. Even before arriving, phone notifications indicated a new fire start near Horton Spring, and the smoke plume was visible from the highway. Not long after, mandatory evacuation notices across the rim rang our phones and it was clear that our plan was going to be thwarted by FR300 being closed, heavy smoke, and firefighting efforts.
With no plan b, I had to improvise on the fly. As it turns out, I'm ok with that kind of thing, and there's so much great terrain in Arizona that finding what we set out for wasn't too tough despite the fire, closures, road construction, delays, deadlines, etc.
It turned out way better than I could have expected. Next time I might just start with no plan and find what's out there the old fashioned way once again! |
