Had twice taken the direct approach but had never done this version. This actually loops around the mtn. Pretty hike which I was able to maintain a bit quicker pace than avg on.

Worth the drive. Lot was nearly full but hikers are spaced apart out here. This outing is actually 9 miles. I checked out the beginning of the azt from the same lot. Looks promising.
