You're rewarded from the steep, rocky climb with a gorgeous lake (3 total in the area) surrounded by majestic mountains. The other two smaller lakes are named Lake Florence and Lake Lillian. One peak in particular that frames Lake Blanche is called Sun Dial Peak. It was windy the afternoon I hiked up so I couldn't get a silhouette of the peak in the lake. I noticed many people backpack in and camp around the lakes. My hiking companion, Courmarane, and I decided to run back down the trail. Don't ask me how we did it. It was quite treacherous, but I made it unscathed, and paid the price with sore legs the next day. But still, it was totally worth it!! |
