| no partners | | I had something else in mind but after I started hiking I opted for a simple loop counterclockwise; I felt tired. Saw a few folks out hiking as I progressed up to the VV junction; after that I saw no one until down and toward the NW corner of the loop. I did notice that the ocotillo leaves are now colored in autumn which was rather pretty. Also on the east side the lizards came out to greet me again but they had some additional friends that were hopping about. I was wondering how many lizard/grasshopper stand-offs there might be on the ground and do lizards eat grasshoppers if they win?
The breeze continued to pick up and I felt like I got a second wind. I do like being under the fan when I go to my gym classes as the cooling gives me energy thus the breeze is nature's fan for me. From about the NW corner through the rest of the hike, it felt much cooler and as I had passed the Western Vista I realized it was nice enough that I should have done that. Oh well.
There was a fellow ahead of me from the wash to almost the intersection with Hawk's Nest Trail; where I eventually passed him. I had decided I would hike further and instead of going back to the TH I continued on the Loop to the Valle Vista Trail and hiked down that and back on Desert Tortoise; saw only three hikers for the rest of the hike.
This is probably my last good hike before I head to NC TN and GA for 12 days. If anyone has been around the Biltmore Estate area, PM me any hikes you've done in the area that you think I might like. I've wanted to check out the Vanderbilt house so since I had an event scheduled outside of Sevierville, TN I expanded my trip to Asheville, NC and Pine Mtn, GA.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
