1st trip
Kelly threw out some suggestions for hiking. This one stuck. Hard to believe I have not hiked in the White Tanks in almost a decade. There is no exit off the 303 for Olive, so we drove another mile north and looped back to get into the park.
We got started a little before sunrise to cool temps. The Mesquite Canyon trail has a nice grade as you ascend. It is never very steep. The use trail off of Goat Camp towards the peak is steeper and rockier. The trail is pretty easy to follow and is cairned. After a while the trail dumps out onto the road to the peak.
Once we neared our destination the wind picked up and was blowing ~30 mph on the summit. We hid behind a building, had a snack, and departed for warmer hiking lower down the mountain.
The return trip was nice. Trails are in good shape. We only ran into a few people until the last couple miles. Good times. Thanks Kelly. :)
