Third trip riding between Bush and Beeline Highways.

As usual I began the ride from the gate along Bush Highway a quarter-mile south of the interchange with Beeline Highway. This time the goal was to reach the lime kiln, the long-gone Sheep Bridge location and the west side of the Salt River.

With a significantly longer planned trip than before I followed the most direct route I could while avoiding the worst of the washes, and having done two recon trips I made much better time.

Once at the drainage leading toward the lime kiln it became slow going while I was back into route-finding mode. Luckily I was able to remember some areas from numerous hikes I'd done on this side of the Salt River and managed to find a reasonable route. It wasn't long before reached the lime kiln, took a quick look and a few photos before heading on toward the old Sheep Bridge location. I had to back-track a few times to avoid soft sandy areas but for the most part it was solid ground.

I took a few quick photos at the old Sheep Bridge, then few on the western shoreline of the Salt River. I cruised back by the lime kiln where I made the mistake of continuing south to the Salt River where it makes a turn south just west of the tubing bus garages. A full 25% of that side-trip mistake was dealing with super-soft sandy area. Lots of 10-50 foot hike-a-bikes to get out of the sand. Along with a couple times to empty the sand from my biking shoes.

Once back to the drainage by the lime kiln I followed much of the ridge-route return as on the previous trip. For the most part I avoided the issues of the last trip but did find the need to back-track a few times in more new areas. Every trip adds to my repertoire of routes so each subsequent trip should be easier. SHOULD be, but we'll see.

While it was the longest (time & distance) ride in this area the next one will be even longer... riding all the way to the Tonto NF/SRPMIC Reservation border along Beeline Highway.
