| no partners | | Just before 5am, I arrived at hwy 88 trail head at the start of First Water Road. Started my hike at 4:55am. Followed Jacob's Crosscut over to Siphon Draw and started the ascent to Flatiron. Just a few others on the trail ahead of me. Caught up to a few of them and reached Flatiron just before 7am. Its about 3.5 miles (one way) to Flatiron from Hwy 88 First Water trailhead.
Plenty of wildlife along the way. Cottontail rabbits, jackrabbits, roadrunner, quail everywhere, and a couple mule deer among other sightings.
Several other hikers making their way up as I worked my way back down. With the early start, it's mostly all in the shade, except that last 1/2 hour. I wrapped up at 8:40am and it was already plenty hot enough for me. I wouldn't want to push this hike any later than 9am. I had plenty of hydration, most of which was consumed in that last 1.65 mile stretch down Jacob's Crosscut and back to the car. |
