| partners | | Went back to where were last weekend to finish off AZT8, doing the north half this time from the Loma Alta TH. Andy was able to make the trip this time. Andy and Wally both have National Park passes, so we didnt have to worry about having a pass to park at the TH. It was somewhat debatable as to whether we needed a pass or not based on how the parking lot there was right on the border of the National Park, and the fact that at the end of our hike, the majority of the cars in the full lot did not have any passes.
This was a very non-eventful hike. Mostly level, easy to follow, cool weather, cloudy skies, mellow bikers, etc. I met the trail steward for this hike at a road crossing and had a nice conversation. Wally and Andy were waiting for me at our turn around point, after lunch we headed back.
The clouds were pretty constant all day, but at times the would break through just enough to need to cover a bit to prevent sunburn. Only until the last few miles did the clouds take over and the overcast skies stayed.
Nice to get this section done easily and quickly. Looking northbound at AZT9 was very daunting, especially with no options to shorten the 27 mile one way hike. Next few hikes looking southbound to the other sections towards Mexico. |
