| no partners | | Brian and I bagged this peak for our second time on the way to Bluebird peak. The route getting to this peak involved some steep class 2+ areas. We got from the parking area to the summit in about 40 minutes, so the roundtrip to this peak and back would normally take about 1.5 hours plus any break time.
Starting off, walk North to a fence line and follow it to the East. In a few minutes you will see a drainage area and unfortunately there was a lot of trash in this area. There was a concrete area with a barbed wire fence along the sides. Walk to the East corner of the drainage and follow the barbed wire fence for about 30 feet until you get to a ridgeline. Follow the ridgeline up and you will see a fairly good trail heading North. Eventually, you will need to get off the trail to climb to the ridgeline and then up to the summit. Note: It wasn't easy getting to Bluebird peak from this location because of the boulders, rock formations, and even cliffs that exist between the two high peaks. If we had to hike Bluebird again, I think we'd be better off hiking way down to the East and get on the East ridgeline going up to Bluebird peak.
We found a registry at the high point of Peak 5560 and signed our names. From this location, we could look down and see the Texas canyon rest stop, and many trucks. The boulder climbing and navigation was a bit tricky but fun.
