| no partners | | Drove up to a late Sat nite car camp up on a side road so I could get early light. Cherry Creek running nicely by the ranch. I had a goal in mind but it will have to wait. About 2.5 miles past Devil's canyon is a gate on the road. It is unlocked and I believe used by mostly ranchers. There were a couple of locks hanging off of it. I parked here and walked the fence line out toward Cherry Creek on what appeared to be an old road. Nice campsite back in there, no sign of usage. New barbwire appears to be up for part of it, very taught and still nice and shiny. Ends on a cliff face with awesome views into Cherry Creek.
Drove on, a casual glance and I went " oh there's a ruin." You have to be pretty zoned in to downed walls. I could not remember if I had gone there. So of course, park, saddle up, down a steep loose hill to a ravine. The only approach was on a thin ridgeline as the ruin perched on cliffs overlooking cherry creek. From the brush bashing and crawling I did doesn't look like any recent visitation. Appeared to be 6-8 rooms, perhaps a small kiva like structure and an open cyst. No pottery or working pieces were seen but its pretty foxtaily right now. All walls were down but some outer walls for the defense of the site were still up in places.
Back to the Jeep. A guy passing by in a Samurai said there was a very bad wash out on up and he had turned around going back. I assume Gold Canyon but I cannot say for sure. Getting hot out there but still green with flowers and water in the Sierra Ancha. |
