I’d never done this section of the lost goldmine trail, figuring that it wouldn’t be that interesting. I was pleasantly surprised, particularly after adding on an ascent of both the “Birthday Cake” and Turks Head on the western end, and Shaka Cave and Waterfall on the eastern end.

Not much traffic on the trails. I just missed seeing a gila monster, but saw the photos of it taken by a couple of hikers who were a little ahead of me on the trail.

There are fairly well cairned routes up Bday and Turks, though I didn’t find the latter until bushwhacking halfway up.

Shaka Cave was pretty cool. Looked like a couple of grinding holes at the entrance.

I need to go back to the waterfall when it’s running.

Starting to get warm out there.
