I hiked the namesake peak for this creek back in 2018, as my first hike in the Bitterroots. However, hiking the creek was always on the back burner due to high water and knowing there were a couple of fords. The snow pack this year however, was rather paltry across the Bitterroots and the opportunity finally presented itself. I started to an empty trailhead on a pretty chilly morning. Thankfully, it was the last of the real cold mornings in what was about a 4-5 day period of some pretty cool temperatures in the area.

There are some nice views of the surrounding drainage and high cliffs from the parking lot, however, the trail quickly goes into the woods and pretty much stays under the cover of trees for the first two miles, apart from skirting the base of a few talus slopes along the way, which offered some nice views up stream. At around two miles the trail gets within eye-sight of the log chocked stream and the first ford comes shortly after. The second ford was thigh deep with a bit of a quick current and required shorts. However, immediately after completing the ford, I realized there was a well placed large log that was just upstream of the ford and I was able to cross on that log coming back, the use trail to the log that I missed seems to indicate that others cross on that log as well. The trail got a little more primitive on the way to the falls, but nothing too impeding or confusing. The raging falls, or water slide was a nice turn around point. They were located at a scenic spot along the trail with some nice views of the high canyon walls and the water raged through a lush section of the creek with vibrant mosses and various green foliage.
