The weather forecast for that area had me making a change of plans. It was calling for cold and snow showers on the days I wanted to spend there. While I brought some cold weather clothing, simply because I didn't trust my sister's forecast for the weather during the trip, I really didn't bring apparel that would work in snowy conditions and honestly, to try to fish when it's that cold isn't really all that enjoyable.
I had something that I had wanted to do at the Gorge when I was there, but the weather was pretty chilly and wet most of the time, so I passed. The forecast looked more promising this time around so I decided to go for it and spend a couple of days exploring and playing on the Washington side of the river instead.
The first day leaving my sister's was pretty much a travel day as it's about 4 hours or so drive from her place. I managed to find a campsite near where I wanted to be and I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. It's actually a city park, with ball fields, but they also had a couple of beaches along the river and a chunk of woods for campers, complete with a camp host. And although it was port-a-johns at the actual campground, there was a full bathroom with flush toilets and showers in the main parking lot to one of the beaches. And they had a trail right across from my campsite that went along the river for a ways. At my campsite, all I had to do was walk across the road and across the trail and down a bit of a slope to a small beach and the views of the river there were really sweet. I was also very fortunate to witness a pretty sweet golden hour and sunset from there that first night.
Then I hit the sack, because the adventures were going to begin the next day...And the day after that. |
