This canyon is just north of Pine Spring Canyon where the Guadalupe Peak trail is. For the more energetic hiker and a bit cooler weather there are multiple trails that connect the two canyons. We will only have time to hike to Pratt Cabin on this trip. Beautiful canyon and I already have it on my to do list to come back and hike some of these trails. The creek had water flow in a couple areas but for the most part it was dry. Well worth the short hike if you are ever in the area.
Wallace Pratt bought the property in 1930 and built the cabin in 1931. Beautiful stone work, even the roof was stone. Pratt donated the land to the Guadalupe National Park in 1961 and died in Tucson Arizona in 1981 at 96. Very interesting man, more info on Wikipedia. |
