| no partners | | Picked an area close to home so I could get some chores done later. Turns out there was a big race with 1500 runners this day, so it made for about a 15 minute delay once I was inside the park, no biggie.
From the main TH I took Pemberton to Stoneman Wash, Pemberton again to the connector trail to Gooseneck, then Rock Knob, Pemberton, Tonto Tank, Pemberton (again) back to the TH. At the trail junction for Pemberton and the connector trail to Scottsdale there was a checkpoint setup with tents, water, snacks, etc, for the runners. Hiking along the Pemberton Trail I saw the runners, but it wasn't a big deal in terms of traffic. Many were dressed up for Halloween, which made for interesting people watching.
It was chilly when I got out of the car, but warmed up very quickly once I started moving. Then the sun came out and it was even a tad toasty. The last mile I hiked along the Pemberton against the traffic flow of the runner, many were soaked, I think from getting doused by water, which I saw happen at the one checkpoint.
Finished up just before noon, leaving the park was much smoother than entering. |
