we left phx at 0400, heading for lhu
set out on our first hike shortly after 0700
just light enough to see
just off the highway, we followed a wash going slightly uphill
some nice rock formations along the way
a couple of unnecessary bypasses around pouroffs
left the wash to approach rovey's needle, a large rock feature
interesting geology, great views from the hill it sat on
we went around the base and checked out a couple of openings in the rock
lots of tafoni
made a small loop on the return, then back in the wash
this feature made for a nice destination and a good warm up hike
on to the next hike of the day! |
