| no partners | | This was a walk around Becker Lake, first following a fisherman's trail along the dam, and then a deer trail. There was a little bit of bushwhacking, two climbs over a barbed wire fence (same fence, twice) and finally, the official Lakeview Trail (see link.) The route was a lot more fun than just walking the official trail.
The lake has risen a bit over the past couple of weeks. Snow melted fast off the mountain, feeding the Little Colorado River, which fills the lake via a pipe and ditch.
I didn't notice any wildlife, and almost no birds.
I enjoyed seeing the ancient, fully intact Aeromotor windmill, two cow skulls on the fence, and lots of views.
Coming back around to the east side of the lake where the windmill is, the deer trail kind of disappeared. I climbed over the fence there for easy walking through the sadly overgrazed area on that side. Photos show the difference. Game and Fish Dept. maintains the lake area for wildlife, fencing off the cattle. |
