Parking lot still surprisingly full. Took Turnbuckle (clockwise) to Granite Falls and then Granite Falls to the beginning of Pyrite. Passed 13 people on the way to Pyrite and then only saw 1 person until I returned to the Turnbuckle. Love the Pyrite Trail. One of the best trails in the park, in part because of the solitude. The trail plays nicely with the terrain as it climbs the mountain. (Going clockwise, this is one of the more gradual climbs in the park). It took about 3 miles to reach the beginning of the Pyrite Summit. If you’ve gone this far, it is definitely worth throwing on the summit, which is only about .3 miles long. Great views to the west and north. On the return trip, I went down the backside of Pyrite. Very steep. Typical for Skyline Park. Then took the quickest route back to the TH….Chuckwalla to Granite Falls to Turnbuckle.
Great hike. Pyrite is one of the top 3 trails in the park. Great weather. Mild temps. Saw some quail and my second garter snake of the year. |
