So I sent to another HAZer and we both agreed all cool hikes, but maybe they are using the term "challenging" a little loosely..I am not sure if any of these would make a HAZ top five challenging hikes..the Supes were well represented.

My top 5 hardest hikes are:

Ballantine/FR143 loop with 3 feet of snow on Pine MNT (I almost drove the wrong down the beeline when we left!)
Ridgeline out and back from Carny springs
Midnight Mesa Loop
Midnight Mesa Loop via City Creek TH
Mount Lemmon from Catalina State Park

They are all challenging but obtainable by the majority of people with reasonable fitness. There are surely harder hikes out there that are not obtainable by most individuals, but I think this article was geared towards the masses. I've done all but the last one and agree they are all good challenges that people will generally enjoy, as opposed to a death march. 2 is the least challenging in my opinion, but still about my favorite hike in AZ.

I did Doyle Saddle from Lockett Meadow last week with Mrs. big_load and a cousin, with very little complaining. However, that last leg to the peak was no sale. Maybe next time. :D
