How do I 'claim' hikes without duplicating the mileage/AEG
For example, I trip logged Superstition Ridgeline which covered Siphon, Supe Peak 5074, over to Flatiron, etc. but on the 'tracking' if I were to log those, it would duplicate the miles. Also on the 60 hikes and other trackers those are listed individually.
Hope this makes sense.

Go to your triplog and look for "Linked" hikes. You can add the additional segments you've hiked.

Re: How do I 'claim' hikes without duplicating the mileage/A
Only the mileage/elevation stats that you enter at the top of a triplog are used for your monthly/yearly statistics. If you select a hike from the existing menu of descriptions, those stats are entered automatically, but you can adjust them to match any additional distance or deviations from those on the hike description.
When you link additional hikes those hikes will show up in your lists as completed, but not in your mileage/elevation stats.
If you look at the triplogs for the Ridgeline here (http://hikearizona.com/x.php?I=4&ZTN=126&UID=0) you will see that yours has no linked hikes. Below it John9L has four linked hikes (Flatiron, Siphon Draw, 5024, and 5057). But the mileage and elevation for 9Ls hike is exactly what he entered. It has nothing to do with the four hikes he linked. (In his case, his mileage and elevation is higher than yours because he did an out-and-back rather than a shuttle).
But on the 60 hikes, Superstitions, and other mapped areas, those linked hikes are now marked as completed on 9Ls profile.

Thanks, I saw the Linked Hikes, but wasn't sure that would 'inflate' my numbers by doing that.
I'm a stickler for that...

Re: How do I 'claim' hikes without duplicating the mileage/A
Hikes that you link also make your triplog and photos appear on the hike pages for all the hikes you link.
So even though your hike is for the Ridgeline, if you link Flatiron and Siphon Draw, when somebody searches for Siphon Draw, your triplog and photos will also appear there, even though you entered your hike under "Superstition Ridgeline".
There's no right or wrong, but some people will link hikes that they didn't actually hike just to make it appear with an adjacent hike for people doing research. This is especially useful for things like driving routes to obscure trailheads. Other times people link a hike even if they only hiked a short portion of it. Dutchman would be a good example. Lots of loops use a portion of Dutchman. This will always mess up the completion lists since there's no way the HAZ system can know if the entire trail was completed or just a portion of it.
People who are seriously tracking some of the mapped area hikes (like 60 with 60 miles) will take care not to link a hike that they haven't hiked completely, even if they have hiked it partially.

Re: How do I 'claim' hikes without duplicating the mileage/A
Any additional questions about linking should be answered by John9L. He is obviously the most proficient at it.
(If you sort this table on the last column [which counts "unique" trails linked] -- you'll see he leads by exponential totals of fabricated or somewhat dubiously fudged numbers. http://hikearizona.com/x.php?I=9.9)

FWIW, Chumley is no saint. See his link of Escalante Route from Sept 2012. Yes I have a long memory!chumley wrote:you'll see he leads by exponential totals of fabricated or somewhat dubiously fudged numbers

Re: How do I 'claim' hikes without duplicating the mileage/A
Here is a fine example of linking. Chumley hiked 11.2 miles and linked 16 hikes! It's actually 17 if you count the main triplog. Impressive

@John9L
It was an entire park/preserve in the northeast, I spent two days logging the entire trail system in the park so future visitors would have gps tracks, mileages and data posted online to work from. I have no shame about that one!

Not all the time. I believe the rule is the threads start to disappear, an actual acrimonious argument has occurred.
