What happened to the See-Drew loop?

Post by Xiled1 »

I've got a See-Drew Loop GPS track downloaded from a while back. I can't seem to find it again. Has the trail changed so much that the old loop is not passable? I was planning on hiking it tomorrow to get some miles in slightly cooler temps. There are some changes sighted in the Drew at See write up. I usually hike it clockwise, starting with See and ending with Drew. Doesn't see like much has changed. What am I missing?

Hasn't changed other than the gates/signage at the bottom of Drew.

That track is actually now a tad incorrect. See was rerouted. You have to cross east over Christopher Creek now and then head up the canyon. This track is more accurate:

[ gps route ]

This is a good time to hike See Canyon. The AZ Predator Callers just did their annual clearing of that trail last weekend. They took care of most of the dead-fall.

@Xiled1 I hike this loop regularly. If its not too late, follow this route and you won't ever have to walk on rim road.

That is not Correct...Although you can do it that way, you certainly do not have to...There is a Trail that keeps you North of the Creek and the Parking Lot entirely...The Highline Splits off and goes to the TH, but the other Trail turns NW and takes you away from all that....I do not have a Track for it.....

@Outdoor Lover

true-- you don't HAVE to cross over the creek east of the lot but that is the actual reroute. You can head straight north from the lot and take the old route if you want to.

how do you keep north of a creek that flows north/south?

@Tough_Boots
Well, if you follow your Route, at the First Crossing near the "Official TH", the Creek runs more West to East..... ;)

I could be mis-SEEing things, but I can't come up with any section of Christopher Creek north of Hwy 260 that runs anything close to east-west. Especially near the TH. The only exception being a 300-yard stretch at the 6350-6400 foot contour. :-k
