South Fork Trail #97, AZ :: Question by ThumbHiker
I find the route, South Fork Trail #97. I cannot for the life of me figure out the steps to get the route with way points into Route Scout so I can follow it on my I phone. Please help. Thumb Hiker, craigguernsey@comcast.net

I can give you regular directions. I used to hike there all the time. My recommendation: DO NOT start at Mexican Hay Lake. Start at the actual trailhead, off 260 on the South Fork road, which is a few miles west of Eagar, and hike up to Mexican Hay, and back down again. This also gives you the option to hike all the way up the creek (not turning off to go to Mexican Hay Lake), which in my opinion is the prettiest option. However, be aware that fire damage is extensive throughout the entire canyon from the 2011 Wallow Fire.

@joebartels Thanks, it worked well. Got it on my IPhone and ready to go. By the way, I would like to fish the river. Any suggestions about how to do this?

@ThumbHiker
It isn't very popular to fish there. South Fork (along this trail) is a pretty small tributary of the Little Colorado. If you go up toward X Diamond Ranch or to Greer, you will have better luck. But you can try fishing along the trail, won't hurt. The other unfortunate thing is the fact there is no longer a campground at the trailhead, ever since the fire. You can go backpacking up the creek, though. It's a very nice easy backpacking trip.
