Best Map for Mazatzals? Help Requested
Advice is appreciated on identifying the best hiking map for the Mazatzal Wilderness - computer based where I can easily set GPS coordinates is preferred. I was looking at my old 7.5 Minute USGS TOPO's (National Geographic) and noticed that several trails were missing/not shown near Barnhardt, like Half Moon, Sandy Saddle, etc. The map available through Tonto has too little resolution (I like 7.5 Minute), and the new NationalMap.gov only shows the MDT, as far as I can tell. Advice appreciated as I got a little lost last weekend after camping at Horse Camp Seep and continuing on to Hopi seep and trying to make sure I was finding the right trail back to Half Moon trail. To be safe I backtracked MDT and Barnhardt. Newb error I'd like to avoid in the future. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Map for Mazatzals? Help Requested
I make copies of USGS topo maps. 7.5 series. I then use colored pencils to make labeled trails from other sources on the map copy. Upon review of the "revised Map" I will select a primary route for the hike objective. Sometimes it may use a different route from another source from one objective to the next. I make another copy of the revised map that I will use and leave for someone in case I am over due on my return.
Different edition of maps, different make of maps may not use the same trail number, label a trail or place names use by folks may not be "official" and labeled on maps. Sometimes current official maps have incorrect information on them. For example the Tonto National Forest Map Atlas has Sharp Creek Campground just South of Pine instead of East of Christopher Creek. Fortunately its a forest service map and not used for calling in artillery or airstrikes.
Also keep in mind hiking guides books etc. may have somewhat different information, location etc. on the same trail.
