Named Santa Ritas link up?

Post by wilsonliam »

Is there a known route for a link-up between the >8000ft Santa Rita peaks? Specifically Wrightson, Ian, McCleary, Josephine, Florida, and (possibly) Hopkins?

I am almost certain that recreational access to Hopkins is still off limits. Wrightson and Ian are close enough that they are fairly easy to do together. Check triplogs and you can see combinations of some of the peaks you mentioned that others have done.
Civilization is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there

Can confirm that Hopkins is off limits. I was (very nicely) chased off of Hopkins a couple of years ago. According to the guy that chased us off it's a combination of needing quiet for the astronomers who sleep during the day, safety issues being that close to an active work site with construction vehicles going back and forth along with the occasional petty theft that they've experienced.

How strange I was up there May of 2021 and no one said a word to me. I road walked off Hopkins and around the gate to take dirt road down to Josephine Canyon trail. I never knew it was forbidden until I saw the signs on the other side of the gate. Lmao, I used restrooms that looked public and walked all the way around the observatory. I was surprised to see the building rotates. In any event I felt bad once I knew but without a sign or a Karen telling me not to, I trespassed with all the confidence of an ignoramus. :D
