Anyone have any experience in this specific peak or area? I've made 2 attempts at it. One from the south which lead to miles of bushwacking and 1 attempt from the east. Which also resulted in something similar. Yesterday I took off on a scouting run from the Willow Springs TH to again find a route up Gold Dome from the east but the trail is basically non-existent after about 4 miles in.
If anyone has been up this or in the neighborhood please post any data you may have. This thing has been taunting me for 4 winters now. You can see it from just about anywhere and it's always laughing at me. It also looks fairly steep for the last couple hundred feet but looks climbable. I'm ok with class 3-3.5 sections as I'm doing this as a trail run/speed ascent. So I don't want to get too crazy on the technical stuff. I know I'll be bloody and cut to shreds but at this point that's faily insignificant as it happens on most of my single track runs out on the trails.

Re: Gold(en) Dome in the Goldfields route
there are several tracks on haz for this, all similar
@dixieflyer:
GPS :: Goldfields: Golden Dome and Peak 3141
mine:
RS :: Golden Dome
@chumley has done it too; i copied either chum's track or dixieflyer's track
there's going to be a bushwhack, but i think there's an easier way up there, at least to get to pedestal arch
john and i found a lot of brush coming off 3141 and over to black glass canyon, so if you just want to bag the peak, maybe go back the way you come up
the actual climb is not difficult, once you get to the base
maybe chums or dixieflyer will chime in
it's a nice high point, one that was on our wish list for some time

Re: Gold(en) Dome in the Goldfields route
Trekkin covered it well. All I would add is put the trail run thing on the back burner. It's not that kind of terrain.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

I trail run Flat Iron for fun. All of my research/attempts in that area are trail runs. I trail run everything, Flat Iron, the Ridgeline, every trail in the Supes, I've even linked up 3 small ridgelines in the Userys as a trail run. It's just what I do. But thanks for the input.
I'll have to go back through the map and the settings. I didn't come across anything in the routes that got me there. This is good stuff and should get me there.

@trekkin_gecko
so for the better part of 20mins I've been trying to get the map to show all routes and not just the official routes and I can't seem to figure this darn thing out. I'm sure it's something simple and my darn brain isn't seeing it. The 2 routes you posted I can only see if I click on your links. When I go to the main map they don't show up.

Re: Gold(en) Dome in the Goldfields route
Golden Dome is out in the middle of the Goldfields, and there is no short, easy way to get to it. If I was going to hike it again I would probably get a Bulldog Canyon OHV permit, drive to Top Hat Hill, park, and hike from there. There would be a trail part of the way, but it would mostly be bushwhacking on rough terrain.
Civilization is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there

@DixieFlyer
When I lived in a home near the Bulldog OHV gate, that is how I would access to Dome Mtn. The mountain top is a lightning rod.

Re: Gold(en) Dome in the Goldfields route
@DixieFlyer
thanks for the info. I see I was taking a more direct route as compared to the ones posted earlier that came in/out of the ridgeline south and NE of it. A few days ago when I was deep into the creek bottom east of the peak I realized I probably should be up on one of those ridges. It's a bit longer to go that way but in the end will probably be easier. I really appreciate all the information on this area as this has become personal between myself and Gold Dome, haha.

Re: Gold(en) Dome in the Goldfields route
Thanks everyone for the input. I finally put on my big boy pants and ran this yesterday. Kind of made my own route heading up from the south side. I captured the ridge that others have used for this route and found my way to the summit. I'll admit, it was a bit more suck than I wanted but part of that is running those darn washes/creek beds. I did see a group of Rams hanging just to the south of the peak itself. Overall a good day. Although I probably won't do it as a trail run again. The other half says (thinks) she wants to give it a go as a day hike. So we'll see.
